Associate Engineers/Technical Directors - Stormwater
As part of the strategic growth of our Three Waters capability, we’re looking for experienced engineers to join our team, with a strong focus on stormwater design and delivery. These are newly created roles supporting a strong pipeline of work, and we’re open to appointing at either Associate or Senior Principal / Technical Director level, depending on experience and capability.
Based in Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga or Christchurch, these roles offer the opportunity to work on complex, high-impact water infrastructure projects across both public and private sectors, while contributing to the strength and growth of our wider Three Waters capability.
Associate Engineer
As an Associate Engineer, you’ll play a key role in the design, planning, and delivery of stormwater projects, working closely with clients and multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality outcomes.
Key responsibilities include:
Leading technical delivery across stormwater management, water sensitive design, hydraulic modelling, and flood and network projects
Delivering projects end-to-end, from investigation and modelling through to detailed design and construction phase support
Contributing technical input across projects while supporting delivery against scope, programme, and quality expectations
Building strong client relationships and contributing to business development opportunities
Providing guidance and coaching to engineers within a collaborative, knowledge-sharing environment
Senior Principal / Technical Director
At a more senior level, this role offers the opportunity to lead across multiple projects while influencing the direction and growth of our Three Waters capability.
This includes:
Providing technical direction and oversight across complex stormwater and three waters projects
Acting as a trusted advisor to clients and internal stakeholders, contributing to long-term client relationships
Leading and reviewing technical outputs, including designs, reports, and modelling, ensuring quality and consistency
Providing technical assurance across projects, including reviewing key deliverables
Shaping technical standards, methodologies, and innovation within the team
Leading business development, client strategy, and market growth opportunities
Overseeing project performance to ensure delivery aligns with scope, programme, and commercial expectations
Mentoring and developing engineers across the business, contributing to a high-performing and connected team
Working collaboratively across disciplines to support integrated project delivery
About you
Our ideal candidates will bring strong technical capability alongside the ability to build relationships and contribute to successful project outcomes.
A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (or related discipline)
Significant experience delivering stormwater and water infrastructure projects
Associate level: typically 10+ years’ experience
Senior Principal/Technical Director level: typically 15-20+ years’ experience
Experience across areas such as water sensitive design, stormwater management planning, catchment planning, and three waters infrastructure
Strong capability in hydrologic and hydraulic modelling and design of pipe and surface networks or flood control systems
Experience using or interpreting tools such as InfoWorks ICM, MIKE DHI, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, TUFLOW and/or GIS
Proven ability to build strong and trusted client relationships (particularly at a senior level)
CPEng status is an advantage, or you may be working towards chartership
