About the role
We’re on the lookout for a Principal Engineer/Team Leader to join our Land Development team in Tauranga. In this newly created role, you'll join an experienced team of Civil Engineers and Designers to lead the delivery of some of HG’s biggest projects. We have an exciting pipeline of work including greenfield and brownfield residential developments, infrastructure, plus commercial and industrial developments that shape the future of our local communities. You will:
- Provide technical expertise, people leadership, project management and design solutions to deliver a range of complex civil engineering projects from initial concept design through to construction completion.
- Proactively review team performance, ensuring efficient project delivery while being hands-on with preliminary designs, supervising detailed designs, calculations, plans, on-site investigations, and technical development.
- Maintain existing client relationships and contribute towards business development initiatives such as identifying opportunities and writing proposals to enhance HG’s future project prospects.
- Guide and coach junior team members in an environment that encourages knowledge sharing and continuous learning.

- Be a recognised urban development leader, stay up to date with industry changes or amendments and relay these changes across the business.
About you
Our ideal candidate will have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- CPEng is an advantage or working towards chartership.
- 10+ years of New Zealand-based experience within similar multi-disciplinary consultancy environments.
- Proven track record of leading land development and infrastructure projects from concept design through to construction.
- Proficiency in 12D design software.
- Knowledge of local council codes, guidelines and consenting processes to ensure smooth project delivery.
- Team building and leadership; Skilled at getting the best out of people, driving a culture of high engagement, high performance and managing their resources effectively.
